Welcome to VET in Schools Programs

The Gordon Institute of TAFE, in conjunction with 26 secondary colleges in Geelong and the outlying region, delivers vocational programs that enable secondary college students to experience a variety of study options whilst providing valuable skills and knowledge for their education, further training, career opportunities and future employment.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools encompasses a range of exciting programs that combine general VCE/VCAL studies with vocational education and training as well as structured workplace learning in industry.

The programs enable secondary college students to complete a nationally recognised vocational qualification and, of course, their VCE/VCAL.

The Gordon Institute of TAFE has nearly 1000 students participating in VET programs in 2009. As well as allowing students to experience study in a career they may be considering, all VET programs contribute to the eligibility requirements for VCE/VCAL and most VET programs also contribute to the student's ENTER score.

Benefits of VET programs are:

  • They assist students to become more ‘job ready’ thereby increasing their employment prospects
  • They form part of recognised pathways to further education and training
  • Upon successful completion, students receive a nationally accredited qualification
  • They contribute to the eligibility requirements for both VCE and VCAL
