The Gordon Institute of TAFE, in conjunction with 26 secondary colleges in Geelong and the outlying region, delivers vocational programs that enable secondary college students to experience a variety of study options whilst providing valuable skills and knowledge for their education, further training, career opportunities and future employment.
Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Schools encompasses a range of exciting programs that combine general VCE/VCAL studies with vocational education and training as well as structured workplace learning in industry.
The programs enable secondary college students to complete a nationally recognised vocational qualification and, of course, their VCE/VCAL.
The Gordon Institute of TAFE has nearly 1000 students participating in VET programs in 2009. As well as allowing students to experience study in a career they may be considering, all VET programs contribute to the eligibility requirements for VCE/VCAL and most VET programs also contribute to the student's ENTER score.
Benefits of VET programs are:
- They assist students to become more ‘job ready’ thereby increasing their employment prospects
- They form part of recognised pathways to further education and training
- Upon successful completion, students receive a nationally accredited qualification
- They contribute to the eligibility requirements for both VCE and VCAL
