The Gordon's suite of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) courses provide training in a wide range of OHS functions relative to workplace roles, responsibilities and work levels. They provide you with relevant skills and knowledge to formalise a career in workplace health and safety. Major areas of study include identifying hazards, assessing OHS risks, implementing strategies to control OHS risks, managing OHS information and data systems, managing hazards in the work environment, developing an OHS management system, advising on application of safe design principles to control OHS risk, conducting an OHS audit and evaluating an organisation's OHS performance. The Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety provides you with fundamental skills to undertake health and safety tasks at lower to middle level management. You will also be equipped to work as a safety officer specialising in occupational health and safety in workplaces and organisations. Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety students are likely to work as an occupational health and safety officer in a small to medium sized enterprise.

The Certificate IV in Occupational Health and Safety is a part-time 12-month course*. Students can expect approximately eight hours (two nights) of class attendance each week. Student intakes are generally in February and July of each year. The intake in July is subject to availability of places. * Customised programs can also be developed.
All applicants will be expected to have relevant language, literacy, numeracy and communication skills to undertake an OHS course. You may be required to attend an interview.
If there are more applicants than course vacancies preference will be given to applicants with a demonstrated interest and understanding of the requirements of the industry and an appropriate level of skills and knowledge to work in the industry.

Eligibility for access to Government subsidised places depends on meeting criteria.
To assess your eligibility for a Government funded place in this course, please use the Fee Eligibility Wizard.
If you do not meet the eligibility criteria, you may still apply for the course. You will not be entitled to receive a Government subsidised place, and will be a full fee paying student and charged a non Government subsidised fee.
All students commencing a government subsidised course will pay tuition fees based on the number of hours of enrolment at a rate depending on the category the course is in. All courses have been classified into one of the five categories for the purpose of calculating fees:

Concessions
A concession is available for a student who is:
This concession does not apply if the student's fees are being fully paid by a Commonwealth Government Agency, or as part of a Commonwealth program or initiative or for Skills Deepening courses (Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma).
NOTE: Fees are calculated for each individual student. The amount payable will vary for different students, who exhausted their annual tuition cap through study in that year or studying more than one course concurrently. For more information please contact our Customer Service Office on 5225 0500.
A full fee-paying student is a student enrolled in a VET course of study for which the provider does not receive any funding from a State or Territory of the Commonwealth, in relation to the students enrolment in that course.

VET FEE HELP is an Australian Government loan scheme that assists eligible students to pay for all or part of their VET Tuition fees. Students studying at the Diploma level and above may be able to defer the cost of their tuition contribution. Recognition of prior learning (RPL) may be given for skills and knowledge gained through previous study or other relevant experience. For further information refer to the RPL brochure that can be found under Downloads & Forms.
The Gordon offers a range of support services to assist prospective students with course, career or fee advice. For enrolled students, the Gordon provides general education support, counselling and careers advisors, disability support services and an Indigenous Education Unit. The Gordon also offers an on-campus Student Residence for students living away from home. If you need assistance in any of these aspects please let a Gordon staff member know so that we can arrange assistance where appropriate.
